The Association of Church Musicians in Philadelphia (ACMP) thanks you for visiting our web site. ACMP is also the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians: an organization for anyone who in any way ministers to God and the People of God through liturgical music. ACMP is charged with the on-going education and formation of those involved in liturgical music ministry in parishes, schools, and other institutions. Our music ministers serve in various capacities as liturgy directors, music directors, choir directors, organists, pianists, cantors, choristers, and instrumentalists. Our members also include priests, deacons, and music teachers responsible for liturgy at both the elementary and high school level. These music ministers might be salaried or volunteer, full time or part time.
We also welcome anyone who is not actively involved in music ministry, but who wishes to keep abreast of Church teachings regarding liturgy and music. ACMP sponsors spiritual, educational, and social events throughout the year. As a member you benefit from several advantages:
- Pay reduced fees for all ACMP events.
- Receive a Membership Directory full of invaluable information.
- Receive educational and informative quarterly newsletters.
- Qualify for a discount on registration for NPM national conventions.
Besides all of these, at any events you attend, you will experience the support and camaraderie of other church musicians, who, like you, believe that good liturgical music enables our assemblies to engage more deeply in the Paschal Mystery of Christ. We believe that pastoral music is a unique art form that requires knowledge and skill in liturgy, music, planning and communication. St. Hildegard of Bingen, Medieval Doctor of the Church, tells us: “Through our singing and playing we integrate body, heart and mind, heal discord, and celebrate heavenly harmony here on earth.” (The Symphony of the Harmony of Celestial Revelations, @1150).
Whether you are currently a member or are considering membership, the ACMP Board of Directors welcomes your questions, comments, and suggestions. Our information is on the website.
God bless you in your service to the Lord.
